Adventures in toilet training...ugh!

I am on a deadline to get Jolene toilet trained. She starts preschool mid-September, just before she turns three, and she must be trained BEFORE she starts. Based on the recommendation of a couple of friends, I bought, read and tried the potty party technique from "Potty Train Your Child in Just One Day." I have to say that I was skeptical, at best, of the whole idea of being trained in one day. I guess if I could have followed the book EXACTLY, it may have worked. But, unfortunately, it didn't work like a charm for Jolene. The potty party day started out pretty good, but by early afternoon, I was totally drained, both emotionally and physically! Jolene is such a good girl, and I know she wants to please us. She is just having a hard time with the whole thing. We are going through underwear like crazy and I am doing laundry every day to keep up with the accidents :( So, please say a little prayer for us when you think of us! Thank you! I snapped a couple of pictures for the scrapbook...

Jolene in her NEW Princess Aurora get-up, including the royal crown and slippers!

Jolene in front of the bathroom door. I covered it with aluminum foil for the mirror "look" and put a poster of all the Disney princesses on the top. If you are wondering, this is a trick to try to get her to want to come to the bathroom to go potty.

This one and the next are pictures of Jolene in front of her and her baby's potty charts.

Aww...my heart goes out to you and to Jolene! I know this is a tough time.

Dr. Pete Stavinoha is a child psychologist at the hospital where I work - Children's Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He recently wrote a book about training a child according to her personality. He describes five different personality types, including the goal-directed child - I wonder if that's the category Jolene falls into? - and then offers specific tips for training that type of child.

Check out his book at www.stressfreepottytraining.com or watch a video for immediately gratifying tips here:

Good luck, girls!

I'm so sorry! I hate potty training more than anything EVER!!! It sounds like you are doing everything you can to make it fun though, so good luck! With my girls I just put them on the toilet every half hour and gave them tons to drink all day. It took about 2 days, but it really worked. Good luck though! I hope it goes quickly!!!

Men’s Health Magazine (Sept. issue) is recommending Potty Train Your Child in Just One Day: Proven Secrets of the Potty Pro by Teri Crane. My husband picked us up a copy after reading the article. Thankfully it worked for us.

I read it didn't work for you, but I encourage you to contact the author. I know the author personally cares about her readers.

I had some questions, so I called the author, and she CALLED ME BACK!!
